Online Mind Matters

Press release 26th February 2011

Aberdeen based Send-it Fulfilment Solutions, has today announced that its website project ‘Aberdeen-in-Mind’, a website that will provide information, support and social networking links for those who have been affected by mental health issues in Aberdeen and the Shire is to go live on 17th March 2011.

The website, www.aberdeeninmind.org, is in the final stages of completion before its official launch date, however details of local events, issues and information from those affected by or interested in mental health matters in the Aberdeen and Shire region is needed to make sure the site is up-to-date and valid for the local community.

The portal site will cover a wide range of mental health issues, providing details of events and news as well as providing links for those who wish to engage in mental health issues on dedicated social networking pages including Twitter and Facebook. Links to other resources will be on the website as well as an A-Z of services available in the region.

The site will be promoted via the NHS, GPs, voluntary organisations, health professionals and Aberdeen’s Cornhill Hospital.

Work on the website started in November 2010, and the site and branding was put together with the support of Rhona MacRae of Big Apple Graphics, with facilities and Macs provided by Send-it. The project, funded by Aberdeen City Health Improvement has provided eight Send-it training placements with the opportunity to work on the project, enabling them to move onto further employment, education or volunteering when their placement has finished.

Jenny Thomson, Manager at Send-it commented, ”The project allows adults recovering from mental health difficulties the training and opportunity to build their own website concerning mental health issues relevant to them. It also provides a valuable source of information and views especially during reforms to the benefit system and funding cuts to services. Everyone has worked extremely hard to get the project up and running and in particular, Rhona who enabled her students to express their creativity and skills.”

If you have news, event details, or wish to join any of the social networking pages please email info@aberdeeninmind.org

Aberdeen in Mind

Send-it’s new project entitled ‘Aberdeen in Mind’ was launched in November 2010 after it received funding from Aberdeen City Health Improvement for the design and implementation of a website that could be used as a portal for those experiencing or affected by mental health issues. The site will be aimed specifically for people who live in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire: it is an online resource for those who suffer or have suffered from mental health issues, as well as their carers and families who often experience emotional, financial and health issues themselves.

Send-it has provided the facilities, Macs, training and technical support to allow eight of its students to design, brand and build the website which is to be launched during March 2011. Training and technical support for the project has been provided by Rhona MacRae, owner of Big Apple Graphics, Aberdeen.

Eight of Send-its training placements have been involved in the project.
